The date on this bulletin is magical. It is
Melissa Furby’s birth date, a wonderful
date in my book! So be sure to wish her
a happy birthday Sunday. I won’t say how old she is,
except to remind you that she is older than I! I feel like
a stranger to Kennett, not just because I was at camp for
a week and not just because Leonard Boggs introduced
me Sunday as the visiting preacher! I was also gone for
two days this past week for CLAIM training. CLAIM is
an agency funded through Medicare to offer access to
volunteers trained in Medicare issues. I looked at this
two years ago and training finally became available at a
time when I could attend. Given the number of seniors
in our area and in our congregation, I felt that a good
service we could provide would be Medicare counseling.
So be aware that many questions pertaining to Medicare
can be answered by your preacher! And if he doesn’t
know, he can call and find out from those who do. Don’t
hesitate to call concerning this. I will also be training
next Tuesday and Wednesday. At that time I will be
fully vested to deal with Medicare questions and
concerns. I hope you were able to enjoy Russ’s
presentation on his trip to Cambodia. Russ has the gift
of making a “mission report” interesting. His video and
detail was engaging, despite the need to turn away a few
times. It was the first Bible class I have been to that
needed a WARNING label affixed to it! We have had
a great summer series so far. I was able to listen to Mike
McDaniel’s interesting and unique lesson on the “ABCs of the Crucifixion.” I found it clever, to say the least.
James Powell delighted us with another lesson on
Wednesday. He is a favorite to many of us. He is in a
job where he lets a lot of people down, but he didn’t do
so with us! Actually, he would say that he is the last
person to let you down. Anyway, he encouraged us
quite well last Wednesday. Next week our speaker will
be Stan Dauck from Bernie. He and I will swap pulpits
as I speak at Bernie on the same night. Strange! But
the series will conclude on Wednesday, July 2 with
another favorite, Brother Albert Gardner. This is a neat
thing for us to do and I hope you have enjoyed it as
much as I have. Be sure to check out the bulletin in
total this week. Steve and Ruth have an update for us
on page 2, with lots of names and items for your
prayers. Page 3 has youth information as well as an
article from award winning and tri state renown
Brandon Higgins. He is sports editor for Bison
magazine and this summer is a writer for the DDD.
You will enjoy his insights as well as the details for
upcoming youth events.
This Sunday our lesson will begin a series within a
series. We are in Matthew and we begin the sermon on
the mount. The first part of that passage deals with the
beatitudes and Sunday we will discuss, “Making the
Kingdom Yours.” Sunday evening our lesson continues
the Deuteronomy series with “The Matter of Justice”
from chapters 16 and 17. Be sure to make the effort to
reach in, reach out, and reach up this week!
