Following Christ
It is impossible to write in any concise form a description of what we believe at Slicer Street. For one thing, there is a huge area of liberty where people are free to believe whatever they want, even though there will be others who believe differently about the same thing. No one should deny that freedom. This is partly because, as Deuteronomy 29:29 says, “The secret things belong to the Lord our God.” In other words, there are many things we just don't know, for only God knows them.
Because of that, we are free to speculate or have opinions about those things without harming unity and faith. Paul even acknowledged that food had no religious significance at all, but some people think it does and they are just fine believing so for themselves.
But that verse goes on to say, “but the things revealed belong to us and our children that we may follow all the words of this law.” There are some things we have been told by God and we are responsible for believing and doing them.
The key to this is revelation. God has graciously made known his will for us and we can access it in Scriptures. But even then, the Scriptures must be rightly divided or properly interpreted. So, the source of authority for what we are to believe and do is the Bible. Because we believe the Bible to be the sole source for determining what we do, we believe…
The Church of Christ here at Slicer Street is a church which seeks to be centrist in mindset as we avoid extremes of conservatism and liberalism. We cherish our heritage within the churches of Christ in the restoration movement, and we recognize also our weaknesses and shortcomings. We hold up the Scriptures as the sole source of doctrine and instruction for living, and we produce all our beliefs and practices from them. We seek to develop a love for man which reaches out to our fellow human beings with the message of the gospel.
